This beautiful Confederation Log Home has been a labour of love since the owners found the west-facing sandy-beached land on Buck Lake and began building their dream cottage. From the selection of log home builder to the locally hand-crafted kitchen; the construction of the hop-covered deck area to the comfortably furnished interior, there is attention to detail in every aspect of this cottage.
Buck Lake lies 25 minutes to the west of Huntsville and Mackenzie Lodge has a prime spot with fabulous sunset views of the lake from the house, a large lawn leading down to the water and a beautiful sandy beach – just right for sandcastle building. The water is shallow for about 15 feet out and deepens gradually with hard sand leading into softer ground underfoot before becoming a good swimming depth. There is a water trampoline and for those who like to dive, it’s deep enough off the dock or from the swim platform. A canoe, two kayaks and a paddleboat are available for exploring the lake. The winding drive leads around to a set of wide steps leading to the front door of the cottage which opens into the log-sided warmth of the main floor. A hallway leads into the open-plan living and dining room and around to the large fully-equipped kitchen with breakfast bar. A cosily furnished sun-room to one side of the living space is a great spot for curling up with a good book and morning coffee. An open pine staircase leads to the upper floor and three bedrooms – the master with large en-suite bathroom has beautiful views of the lake; the second queen bedroom is also on the lakeside and the third bedroom has twin beds and double bed with single bunk over – great for the kids. A second bathroom with bath & shower over is on this level. The lower level is home to the fourth bedroom, another full bathroom as well as a laundry room. The family room with large screen TV has comfortable couches and a propane fireplace, while an electric piano and table football offer additional entertainment. A large library of books and DVDs will keep all the family occupied when the weather makes for a day indoors. Doors lead onto the attractive deck with plenty of Muskoka chairs and a canopy of greenery to keep the area shaded during the hottest part of the day. This spectacular log home is an ideal location for an extended family or two families to enjoy a wonderful vacation together while having plenty of space for privacy or quiet reading. Evenings can be spent around the campfire watching the sun set over the glassy lake or in convivial gatherings on the deck. Huntsville has everything needed for stocking up with food and beverages but we think once you have seen Mackenzie Lodge, it’s unlikely anyone will want to be away from this beautiful location.
