    Elmhirst's Resort is located 90 minutes east of Toronto on the north shore of Rice Lake. This unique colony of lakeside cottages began as a humble fishing camp and is now a lovely cottage resort for families as well as a great place for outdoor adventure.

      Elmhirst has 30 individual cottages on the property and each are self-catering and have all the amenities you need for a lovely family cottage holiday. The resort rests on Rice Lake which in Summer is wonderful to swim in, kayak, canoe or just watch the sun set over. The cottages are a range of 1 to 5 bedroom and the right one will be chosen for your family. Elmhirst also prides itself on the range of adventure activities it has available for guests including horse riding, kite surfing, float -plane excursions and hiking trails. Sunday Brunch at the renowned Hearthside Dining Room is a firm favourite with guests and locals alike.


    The Important Stuff:
    Each cottage features a full kitchen with microwave oven, fridge and stove, dishwasher, coffee maker, toaster, dishes, glassware and cooking utensils, counter space and dining area. Grocery lists are provided in all cottages for those who wish to order fresh produce and meat daily. Arrange to have delicious steaks delivered to you for grilling on your BBQ. Supermarkets are located in Keene (5 km), Hastings (15 km) and in Peterborough (25 km). Bathrooms feature whirlpool tub, shower, sink and toilet. Larger units have 2 washrooms. Towels, toilet paper, shampoo and soap are supplied. Bedrooms (from 1 to 5 available) have comfortable beds, duvets, extra blankets, closet space and a desk. Ceiling fans are located in the living areas and bedrooms. Bedding is supplied. Living room features sofas and chairs, colour television, DVD, stereo, telephone, wi-fi connection, library and a wood burning, open hearth fireplace (wood is provided). Ceiling fans are located in the living areas and bedrooms. Each outdoor deck faces the lake, holds lounge chairs and a gas barbecue. Picnic tables are located on the lawn in front of each cottage. Gardens provide privacy for each cottage. Pick the herbs found in your private garden as you prepare dinner. A nature path along the waterfront allows birds and butterflies to exist in a separate ecosystem in full view of the cottages. Private docks are located on the waterfront in front of each cottage – these docks are ideal for fishing, sunbathing, boat parking, stargazing and for dangling feet in the water.

    Optional Extras:
    There are a variety of boats and motor boats avialable for rental. Free Spirit Riding Stables is open May through October. First time and experienced riders alike will enjoy the picturesque guided trail rides through fields and wooded areas, with breathtaking vistas and cool breezes through the trees. The herd of horses are trained to walk the trails, making it safe for novices and children. The sights and sounds of nature and the smell of earth and fragrant woodland flora greet you on every ride. Try Kiteboarding on Rice Lake.

    Stuff for Kids

    Elmhirst is a fantastic family resort with so much for children to do and enjoy including an outdoor and indoor swimming pool and of course Rice Lake which is great for swimming and water fun. Activities include: Swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, sailing, water-skiing, tennis courts, horseback riding, cycling, hiking and sightseeing flights on site.

    Year round recreation is available to guests. Weekly programs for all ages are posted during the summer months. Visit the indoor swimming pool and whirlpool daily from 8:00 am – 9:00 pm. Changerooms with showers. Towels at the Front Desk. Unsupervised area. Outdoor pool open May 24 weekend to Thanksgiving. Maps for Walking trails (ski trails in winter) at Front Desk. Waterfront nature trail. Guided ATV and Snowmobile Safaris – additional cost. TransCanada Trail nearby for cyclists, snowmobilers, hikers.

    Local Restaurants:
    Whether you indulge in a burger in the Wild Blue Yonder Pub, steaks in the Hearthside Dining Room or roasts at Sunday Brunch you will be dining on the resort's own farm bred and raised Black Angus beef. Elmhirst strives to serve the freshest food possible, produce as much as possible themselves or source from local farmers.
