Northern Soul is located on Growler Lake (also known as Bear Lake and occasionally Bat Lake) and is nestled in an area of absolute tranquillity and wilderness beauty, approximately a three hour drive north of Toronto. A Northern Soul Cottage Retreat is a newly built cottage facing west across this delightful lake with a large lot and a private and pristine waterfront.
The door on the driveway side of the cottage opens into the large kitchen with top of the range, stainless steel appliances that will appeal to even the most discerning of cottage cooks. Fully equipped and spacious, it will be the focal point for cocktail hour gatherings while meal preparation gets underway. The large dining table has prime views over the gardens and waterfront as does the comfortable living area. The screened sunroom to one side of the dining area, is large and furnished well for you to enjoy those balmy summer evenings; play board or card games, or simply watch the sunsets. There are three large bedrooms off the living area; the master has an ensuite bathroom and doors to a private deck with a bistro furniture for enjoying morning coffee. Two further bedrooms share another bathroom on the main floor. To the side of the kitchen are stairs leading to the family room and lower level bedrooms. Entertainment is the key feature of the main area on this level with large screen TV, and a variety of board games, videos and DVDs. This is a great spot for the younger members of the group to congregate while those seeking a more peaceful time can enjoy the lounge upstairs. There are sliding doors for easy access to the waterfront. An additional bathroom completes the accommodation. On the waterside, the dock and water beckon. There is an expanse of sand toward the waterfront and a small beach is offered for easy access to the water. The lakebed is soft and silty underfoot and there is some weed so water shoes are recommended. It deepens gradually to a depth of around five foot at the end of the dock where it becomes great for swimming. Try fishing from the dock - Lake Trout and Splake (a cross between Lake and Brook Trout) are plentiful. The lake is small and there is agreement among the owners to restrict the use of motor boats to maintain the tranquility of the environment.
