Where is it?
Manawan is approximately 270 kms from Montreal, Quebec.

Departure Dates:
Guaranteed departures every Monday or Wednesday from Montreal. Minimum 2 people – maximum 12 people. Extra overnights in Montreal are available – please ask for details.

Accommodation Types:
Please note that accommodation at the reserve is in a Tipi. These Tipis are basic, simple and traditional.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Montreal Arrive in Montreal and make your way to your downtown hotel. Overnight Montreal. Day 2: Montreal – Manawan After breakfast discover Montreal on your own. In the afternoon you will be collected from your hotels and driven the 3-hrs to Manawan. Upon arrival meet your native guides and enjoy a motorboat transfer (35 mins) to Lake Kemp. Once on the native site of Matakan, set up the tipi bedding and enjoy dinner by the camp fire. Overnight in the Tipi. Day 3: Matakan Site on Lake Kemp The adventure begins with an introduction to canoeing and learning about the site. Discover ancient petroglyphs (rock carvings) and then step on a rabaska (large, traditional canoe) for a group outing. Enjoy a picnic lunch on a wild river beach. In the afternoon, a traditional workshop awaits you; learn about either building a canoe, the Atikamekw native language or medicinal plants. A traditional dinner cook-out will be followed by a sunset hike in the forest. Share your experience together with your guides around the evening fire. Overnight Tipi. Day 4: Manawan – Montreal After breakfast return to Manawan by motorboat. Stop at one of the great beaver dams for an interpretive session. Transfer back to Montreal by minibus for the rest of your holiday!

Stuff for Kids
Matakan is a fun and interesting experience for children as they will learn about the cultural heritage of a Canadian Native community tribe. There are also local children at the reserve who are always keen to meet other children!
